Barisardo

In the heart of Ogliastra

The village of Bari Sardo, also known as Barì, has a rich and fascinating history. The name “Sardo” was added in 1862 to avoid confusion with the Apulian city. This charming place is located on a striking basaltic plateau called Teccu ‘e su Crastu, surrounded by hills of vineyards and orchards. Its artisan tradition is renowned for carpets, tapestries, blankets and linens. The majestic parish church of Our Lady of Monserrato, with its precious marbles, is one of the most beautiful on the island. The area is rich in archaeological evidence, including domus de Janas, nuraghi and Giants’ tombs. The tower of Bari, symbol of the area, was built by the Aragonese and dominates the coast, dividing the sea into two parts: mari de is ominis and mari de is feminas.

Beach

The coast of Barisardo is characterised above all by its variety. Often within a few hundred metres the landscape changes considerably, presenting a great diversity of natural environments: long sandy beaches, small coves, cliffs and coves.
